Day 182: Recycled Metal Container

Day 182: Recycled Metal Container

Recycled metal container in my apartment building.

In my apartment building I can recycle glass bottles, newspaper, cardboard and plastic.

Earth911′s website states that, “The amount of energy saved in using recycled metals is extensive. The ISRI reports an energy use reduction of 95 percent for aluminum, 85 percent for copper and 74 percent for iron and steel.” Get more information about metal recycling.

What was your simple green act for the day?

  • Mike, I've discovered that friends and family are more than happy to save candle butts and stubs for you if they know you are re-using them to make new candles.

ps. Please make a note to remove the metal lid from cans. If they are left intact (as in the photo) and a stray animal tries to get to the juices/scraps inside they will push the lid in with their nose getting stuck and receiving serious injury or snout amputation. I get the heeby jeebies just thinking about it.

Tuna cans make lovely little candle holders. :) (From back in the days I actually used to eat tuna)

Good tip. I've been wanting to make my own candles as well.
