Day 49: Received Hand Me Down Sneakers

Day 49: Received Hand Me Down Sneakers

A friend of mine recently bought some new sneakers and was going to toss his old pair. I graciously stepped up and told him that I’d take them from him because I’m such a nice friend.

It also helps that they were a pair of Vibram Five Fingered kicks that I’ve wanted as well.

In 2005, the US generated some 8 million tons of waste from footwear and clothing—approximately 54 pounds per person. Find out more about how to green your sneakers at GreenYour.com.

What was your simple green act for the day?

Cool. Did you know you can send in Chacos to be resoled for a small fee, instead of buying new ones? I sent in mine, but I guess they were beyond repair, so they offered to send me a new pair for a great price. They came in a recycled box, of course. They are a great company.

Did not know that. To be honest, didn't even hear about that company.

There is a company here in NYC that takes all textiles in to be recycled. The 2010 spring line of Simple shoes is supposed to have soles that biodegrade in a landfill in 20 years as opposed to 1,000.
