Day 43: Reused Food Container for Storage

Day 43: Reused Food Container for Storage

The other day I bought some hummus. When I was done with it I saved the container that it was in. I was able to use it to store some onions that I had sliced up.

It would be ideal that I didn’t consume plastic at all, but since I did, I’m reusing it for another purpose. In this case it’s food storage.

Other uses for plastic containers are for buying foods from bulk bins and storing other loose items.

According to GreenFeet, Americans generate 10.5 million tons of plastic waste a year but recycle only 1 or 2 % of it. Check out more quick facts on plastic pollution.

What was your simple green act for the day?

Love your site and simple ideas. Especially the uses for "gray water". I'm going to start reusing the water today.
You inspired me to do something new every day to help the environment, I'm already a vegetarian, I diaper my baby in cloth, and dry the laundry outside, but I am ready to stretch myself a little. Reusing gray water will be the first step.
    I'll stay tuned.

Awesome to hear. I've actually been using the water more often to flush and to water my plants.

After a while all those little things will become a routine part of your life and hopefully inspire others around you to do the same.

Keep me updated on what you're doing.

Really admire your untiring enthusiasm for getting the re-cycling message across Mike. In our household, we also do as much as we can, particularly good with having my allotment. When I am up and about again, will try and post photo's, but until then I enjoy reading all your tweets. Thank you.

No, no. Thank you for the support and kind words. For us to make a difference, we don't have to be 100% perfect. We just have to do a lot of the little things and they'll all add up.
