Day 108: Made an Envelope Using Cardboard Box

Day 108: Made an Envelope Using Cardboard Box

I made an envelope using cardboard packaging of a snack cake.

Since I never mail anything, I didn’t have any envelopes and didn’t want to buy any. There was the packaging in our bin to be brought down to be recycled. I cut it up, put the check inside and taped it closed.

What was your simple green act for the day?

Congrats! Just read about your blog at "Vida Simples", a Brazilian magazine. A tip for you when you get a sewing machine: Make napkins from old t-shirts.
  • Thank you for finding me. Where can I be found on "Vida Simples"? I looked, but the Portuguese is a bit rusty :-) I like the idea of napkins from t-shirts.

I didn't find the text online. It's on " Vida Simples" december 2009, page 19. I'll translate for you, sorry for my poorly English:

    "Resolutions from New's Year"
"What are you going to do on your next 365 days of the new year that's coming? Get serious on the academy, work less, get more fun, start a course of Italian? Tired of encourage your friends to living a more sustaintable life and only receiving explanations that adopt green habits wasn't anything practical, the environmentalist Mike Lieberman decided to create a blog , 365 ways to go green (365waystogogreen.com), which every day brought a new and practical tip to show that helping the environment isn't so difficult. "Nothing better then prove people that's very easy to adopt this kind of attitude with simple tips," he says. Mike teaches you how to make compost from domestic waste to plant seedlings in PET packaging."

  • Thanks for the translation and for letting me know. Is it possible to get a copy of the magazine? Or do you know of an email address of someone that I can contact?

Napkins from old t-shirts? Do tell. How? Is there a link?
  • lumiwashita
I didn't find anything on the internet about it. I was wanting to start to sew and thought that make napkins would be a good beginning, it seems to be one of the easiest things to sew. I researched a little bit about fabrics, and here in Brazil they're often made by 100% cotton. Thought to reuse old t-shirts or shirts that I don't use anymore. I found some interesting links teaching to sew cloth napkins on youtube and just got a sewing machine borrowed! :D Hope to start soon,... :)

I hope it works out well. Show us your project when you get done.
  • Love, love, love this idea! Frugal and green. Bless you for sharing this. I fuse plastic shopping bags to make padded mailers. Requires sewing machine, but worth the effort since I mail so many books.
  • Nice Yvonne. I really want to get a sewing machine and learn how to sew. Been lookin on Freecycle for a while now.
  • I hope you can find a good sewing machine and get creative with it. I enjoy making quilts. I made this one for my grandson using scraps from other projects:
