Day 131: Shut Down Computer For The Night
I shut down my computer for the night.
According to GreenYour.com
- It takes more energy to start your computer than leaving it on all night, computers require only a small surge of energy when they’re turned on.
- If your computer is going to be idle for more than two hours, you should shut it down.
- Shutting down your machine reduces its demand for energy, preventing the release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
-
I have also adjusted the power settings on my computer as well.
What was your simple green act for the day?

This one is such a simple one, but most people don't take the extra few seconds to do it.
I turn off my computer every night and then turn off the power strip that the computer, printer, etc are plugged into. I do the same thing when I leave the house to ensure it isn't draining energy while I'm gone.

Seriously, it is that warm in your apartment?
Thanks for the reminder, we just got back from vacation and we should have unplugged everything before we left, but will do this next time.
I also planned for your tip of carrying my own cup on the airplane, as I have done this without a hitch for years. FA's were always more than willing to pour water into my cup, but I was shot down this time. May be something to do with swine flu??? I sometime like to strike up conversations with FA's about if they recycle all those plastic cups and I have learned that very few airports and catering services recycle.

It's definitely a simple one that most people don't do or get until you tell them about the potential savings. Then they get it.

It might be 20 degrees outside, but the heat is blasting in my apt building.
It takes getting used to unplugging and shutting things off to make it part of the routine.
I would think that it depends on the FA when it comes what they will or won't do for you. The lack of recycling doesn't surprise me too much unfortunately. Sad.
Hope you enjoyed your vacation.
