Day 56: Had Grandmother Reuse Plastic Produce Bag

Day 56: Had Grandmother Reuse Plastic Produce Bag

My grandmother has enough plastic bags to fill her own landfill. So when we went grocery shopping, we brought along some with her to use for produce. Being a sport, she went along and brought along a few of her many thousand.

I’m hoping that she’ll continue that trend when I am not there to go grocery shopping with her.

The real question that I have is what is she planning on doing with all of those bags?!?

ResuableBags.com has a lot of numbers on plastic bags including this one, “According to The Wall Street Journal, the U.S. goes through 100 billion plastic shopping bags annually. An estimated 12 million barrels of oil is required to make that many plastic bags. ”

What was your simple green act for the day?

Just sayin' but your grammy doesn't look too happy about it.

We use plastic store bags as garbage bags, and I am pretty happy to say that our household of 3 (well- 2 and a baby) fills one small bag with trash every 3-4 days. It would be less if we composted. Oh- and we re-use plastic and ziplock bags. I don't think my husband is too thrilled, but I make him bring back the plastic bags in his lunchbox, so I can refill them the next day.

Haha. She wasn't aware of the pic. i just snapped it. Good stuff Tammy. Now that I compost, I generate such little trash. You get your husband flossing yet?
